An EORI (= Economic Operator Registration and Identification) number is a European Union registration and identification number for businesses that import or export goods into or out of the EU. An EORI-Number is mandatory, regardless of whether an importer gets the cargo delivered by Sea Freight or Air Freight.

The EORI-Number consists of the country code of the issuing member state, followed by a unique code or number in the Member State.


The procedure for requesting an EORI number depends on your situation:

  • If you are established within the customs territory of the EU, you should contact the customs authority of the country you are established in.

  • If you are established outside of the customs territory of the EU, you should contact the customs authority of the country where you first lodge a declaration

If you do not have an EORI number, customs authority will most likely take possession of the consignment until you are able to produce an EORI number. It is advisable to request an EORI number before placing an order and an importer must apply for one before the consignment has departed from the country of origin.
